Yee Foo Mee (25 August 2012)
Yee Foo Mee is a Cantonese-style egg noodle made from wheat flour. It is also written as Ee Fu Mee, Yee Mee or Yi Mein. The noodle often takes on a straw colour or even a darker shade of brown. Hawkers selling Yee Foo Mee usually also sells
Sar Hor Fun and
Hokkien Char, as well as Tai Luk Mee on occasion.

In Penang, Yee Foo Mee is a popular hawker dish. It is usually available alongside Sar Hor Fun, and is often consumed on birthdays as "longevity noodles". The noodle is fried with slices of barbecued pork (
char siew), egg, fish cakes (
hoo pnieh), prawns and
chye sim (mustard greens).
My favourite stalls selling Yee Foo Mee in Penang includes one in the evening at the hawker centre along
Kimberley Street and another in the morning during market hours at the Bayan Baru Hawker Food Centre. The hawker at Bayan Baru also opens a stall along
New Lane.
