Penang Yong Tau Foo (檳城釀豆腐) is a soup dish of Hakka origin that is often found at Penang coffee shops and hawker centres. The name yong tau foo is Hakka for stuffed beancurd. This refers to the various beancurd-based items that are stuffed. They include beancurd stuffed with meat, stuffed soya puffs and stuffed such as ladies' fingers, chilli and brinjal.
Customers select the items that go into the soup and then hand the selection to the hawker, who cooks up the soup and serve it with an accompanying dip of sweet sauce and chilli sauce. The sweet sauce is dark brown in colour while the chilli sauce is vermillion. These may come in separate saucers or placed together within a larger saucer.
This dish can be found throughout Malaysia. The Penang-style yong tau foo comes with the clear soup made from stock. Unlike the Ampang style, there is no dry version.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
